Curtains frame the room.  They can define the collective theme that you’re trying to capture creatively.  So, careful measuring is essential to make sure that you effectively get the look that you desire.

For great results, please follow these easy steps to determine the hardware and window panel length you will need.

Mounting Options
At RoomsByYou, we do not carry any mounting hardware.  There are so many beautiful options in the marketplace that a simple search online should result in many options that will suite your taste.  Our focus is on coordinating color and surface pattern design in the textiles found around the room.  That said, below are some mounting options that you can choose from.

Trim Mount
In this option, you mount the curtain hardware brackets directly to the window trim that surrounds your window.  This options shows off the actual size of your window.

Wall Mount
This is a personal favorite of RoomsByYou because it makes the window look fuller.  In this option, mount the hardware 3”-4” above the window trim/frame and 3”-4” to either side of the window trim/frame.

Measuring for Curtain Panels
You have two options to pursue.

Floor Length
This is a more formal curtain presentation.  We love it.
Simply measure from the top of the window mount to the floor.  Do yourself a favor and measure this twice, just in case.

Sill Length
This is a more casual curtain presentation.  At a minimum, curtains should always be long enough to reach the windowsill.  You can, however, have the curtain fall below the windowsill to suit your personal taste.

Measure from the top of the window mount to either the sill, or to your desired length below the sill.

IMPORTANT: At RoomsByYou we carry one size width (44") at 4 different lengths (54”, 64”, 84” & 96”).

Sill
If our curtain option is longer than the height of your window sill/frame from top-to-bottom, then adjust your wall mount hardware upwards until you reach the desired distance from the bottom of the sill to the bottom of the curtain panel.  Try to make the distances equal, if possible, from the top of the curtain panel to the top of the sill/frame AND the bottom of the curtain panel to the bottom of the sill/frame.

Floor-to-Ceiling Height
Different houses have different ceiling heights.  After you have made your measurements, you can choose from 64", 84" and 96" lengths.  Choose the length that best suits your measurements.  Your wall mount should be positioned above the window sill/frame until you reach such a point where the curtains just graze the floor.

Wide Windows
For wide windows, layer 4 curtain panels side-by-side (2 panels to the left of the window and 2 panels to the right of the window). When you pull your curtains shut, the panel looks best when it’s not pulled tight and flat across the window.  The panel looks best when there is still some draping vertically.
